Case study: South Carolina communications






            The campaign began with a newsletter article included with the first-
            quarter statement and provided a list of questions to ask the broker if the
            participant received an unsolicited visit regarding rolling their benefits out   MAKING AN IMPACT

            seminars led by a dedicated retiree advocate.                               500

            Topics highlighted in the newsletter and discussed at the seminars included:   RETIREES ATTENDED

            In addition to the first-quarter newsletter, a web bulletin on the homepage   41%
            of the participant website announced the seminars and included a link to a

            SIGNIFICANT RESPONSE
            The response to the article and seminars was tremendous. More than
            220 retirees attended the first seminar in Columbia. Initiatives discussed
            included the benefits of staying in Deferred Comp following retirement and
            were presented in an entertaining and engaging style that kept attendees
            in their seats and focused on the content. After this initial meeting,      To learn more
