2025 STARS
AWARD
In 2006, the Board of Supervisors approved the
implementation of the STARS Program to recognize
County programs that demonstrate outstanding
customer service and program performance in
alignment with the County’s Shared Vision. The
program was expanded in 2008 to include the
Green and Employee Suggestion award categories
and expanded again in 2016 to include a category
for Diversity.
The JFY program has been on a mission for the past
several years to move away from the use of paper
materials as much as possible. This includes the
career development workbooks used in workshops,
tabling materials at career fairs and community
events, and guest invitations to the annual JFY Al
Teglia Scholar Celebration. Not only has this had a
tremendous impact environmentally, but also allows
for greater accessibility for youth with all learning
abilities to engage with the program’s materials.
In the Winter of 2024, JFY was awarded the Green Award for their commitment to
greenifying their program and using digital materials whenever possible. By utilizing the
Environmental Paper Network's Paper Calculator, JFY has saved 2.4 U.S. short tons of wood,
which is roughly equivalent to 14.2 trees. This conservation also represents a reduction of
5.07 million BTUs of energy—enough to power 17.9 residential refrigerators. Additionally,
JFY has cut down 10,629.2 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions, comparable to the output
of one car over the course of a year, and prevented 696.05 pounds of solid waste, equal to
the daily waste generated by 158.6 people.
