THE COUNTY
The County of San Mateo is located in the heart of the San Francisco Peninsula, offering a wide
range of recreational pursuits, economic opportunities and numerous attractions. The 765,000
residents of the County enjoy a diverse, multi-cultural citizenry, cosmopolitan ambiance, temperate
climate, clean air, rural open space, and a geographic location in the heart of the San Francisco
Peninsula. The County provides for the health and welfare of all people within its borders and
serves as the local government for the unincorporated areas. The County has a budget of $3.8
billion in FY 2021-22 with over 5,600 full-time employees.
INFORMATION SERVICES
DEPARTMENT
Headquartered in the heart of the San Mateo County Government Center in downtown Redwood
City, the Information Services Department (ISD) supports all County departments in leveraging
technology to best serve the residents of San Mateo County. The Department has 135 full-time
equivalent positions and plans to spend $40 million in Fiscal Year 2021-22. ISD is an internal
service department that recovers its costs by charging County departments for its services.
THE POSITION
Reporting to the County Manager, the Chief Information Officer (CIO)/Director of Information Services plans,
organizes, directs, and reviews the functions and activities of the Information Services Department including
applications development, enhancement and maintenance, IT security and data communications support;
establishes, monitors, evaluates, and revises department goals, objectives, policies, and procedures; coordinates
assigned activities with other County departments and outside agencies; and provides highly responsible and
complex administrative support to the County Manager and the Board of Supervisors.
