County of San Mateo Deferred Compensation Program Participant Survey 2026
294 as long as employed 1/15/2026 5:38 AM
295 If they held in-person meetings, the person giving the information could answer our questions 1/14/2026 10:30 PM
on the spot, which would make us more interested in participating.
296 Christian Jensen - San Mateo County Probation 1. I am unable to increase or decrease my 1/14/2026 10:28 PM
contribution %. 2. I am unable to choose where my money is placed / what funds I contribute
to. 3. I am unable to opt out of the mandatory 8% retirement contribution. I really would like to
better manage my retirement account. I do not think it is appropriate to force staff to invest
into this deferred compensation program and have 0 power on how the plan is being managed.
I cannot pick my funds; I cannot pick how much contribution I want to contribute. I would like
to have full control over my retirement investments, specifically this 401k. How can we make
that happen? I appreciate you response. Christian Jensen cell - 408-425-1993 e-mail:

297 I reached out to the contact listed on the county's website and never heard back. I want to 1/14/2026 10:06 PM
understand the difference between the pre-tax contribution and the post tax contribution, and
how the money is invested.
298 I think I’m contributing as much as I can but I’m not aire 1/14/2026 9:44 PM
299 I stopped in order to reduce other debt obligations. I may contribute again when my salary 1/14/2026 8:30 PM
increases and/or my debt has reduced more.

302 I feel empowered by the information I have at my fingertips - my obstacle is to see how the 1/14/2026 7:37 PM
County's programs auguments my current social security and annuities
303 I'm not sure what more a deferred compensation plan can do. i set aside money from my 1/14/2026 7:34 PM
paycheck and it is put into the account to earn interest and eventually i'll pull from it to help
with my future retirement. i already contribute to it, but it is not at a level that will change my
life when i retire. unfortunately i live paycheck to paycheck and even though i can legally put
thousands into the account, i'm pushing it with what little i can contribute. unless the county
wants to match my contributions, there isn't much more to discuss.

308 Having clearer guidance and education about the 457(b) plan would help me feel more informed 1/14/2026 6:24 PM
and motivated. I currently have multiple retirement accounts, and it can be confusing to
understand how they interact, what benefits the 457(b) offers, and how to manage them
effectively.
309 I had to stop participating because we lost health insurance coverage through my spouse's 1/14/2026 6:23 PM
employer, and I had to pick up health insurance for the family. I am planning to participate
again if my spouse takes a new job with insurance.
310 If I had extra money I would. 1/14/2026 6:21 PM
311 You need to have a significant amount of extra income to contribute to the plan. Contributing 1/14/2026 6:02 PM
the bare minimum is often the only option if any.
