THE POSITION

The Assistant Director will assist the Director in planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating programs and
activities involving the operation, maintenance, protection and improvement of County parks, recreational areas,
resources and facilities.
The Assistant Director will assume a leadership role in a high-performing and innovative organization comprised

of highly motivated and engaged staff. Some of the challenges and opportunities for the Assistant Director
include:
Leading management of the capital improvement program for construction projects in the parks.
Maintaining strong relationships with the Board of Supervisors, Partners, Friends of the Park groups, and
other stakeholders.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

Strong analytical skills and a firm sense of accountability and ownership for end-to-end project lifecycles.
Experience in implementing innovative business process redesigns that increase efficiencies and leverage the use

of technology.
Politically astute with a proven track record of developing high-level strategy for resolving complex issues that
involve multiple stakeholders.

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with a variety of County staff, elected officials,

agencies, and community members with diverse backgrounds and varying levels of knowledge about parks,
recreation, and natural resources management.
Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and manage changing priorities.

Ability to provide the highest levels of customer service to internal and external customers and to make prompt
and sound decisions.

Demonstrated experience managing and leading change, training, developing and supervising staff.
Strong knowledge of and experience with diverse electronic and print media and communication channels that

enable effective communication with and responsiveness to the public.
