EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Provide highly responsible administrative and management assistance to the Director of Parks in
planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating all functions and activities of the Parks Department.
Lead, direct, supervise, and guide assigned departmental staff by establishing departmental goals,
policies and performance standards, conducting periodic evaluations and ongoing coaching.
Consult and cooperate with other department managers on all aspects of department services; discuss
organization and operations challenges, develop alternatives and strategies and assist in implementation
of solutions, as necessary.
Assistant in directing and counseling staff in the planning, resource allocation and budgeting.
Assist in the preparation and administration of the department budget.
Perform a variety of special assignments, prepare analytical and statistical reports in all areas of parks
management, and manage projects from concept to completion as necessary.
Assist in coordinating department activities with those of other County departments and outside agencies
and organizations.
Research, prepare and present technical, fiscal and administrative reports, studies and correspondence.
Ensure provision of staff training; direct personnel actions, such as promotions, transfers, discharges and
disciplinary measures.
Assist the Director in negotiating solutions to major issues involving policy, service delivery and other
organizational changes.
Act as the Director in their absence.
Represent department to Board of Supervisors, County Manager, and outside agencies, groups and
organizations; participate in community and professional groups and committees; and provide technical
assistance as necessary.
